A Secret Lunch is inspired by the famous painting The Last Supper, but it tells a different story, one rooted in tradition, community, and rural life. In the past, and even until a few decades ago, families and neighbours would come together to help one another with large seasonal tasks such as harvesting grain, haymaking, or preparing food for winter. These gatherings were based on cooperation, mutual support, and a strong sense of community. The women of the household would prepare meals for the men and for the members of other families who had come to help. After the work was completed, everyone would gather around the table to share food, stories, laughter, music, and celebration. The hands appearing in the painting symbolize God and a higher dimension watching over these moments of unity, kindness, and human connection.
